Project Benefits:

  • Create a comfortable environment for people of all ages and abilities who are walking, biking, and rolling along San Bruno Avenue and crossing over the U.S. 101 interchange.
  • Tie into other future projects to close key gaps in the countywide bikeway network by connecting to future bicycle and pedestrian improvements on Holly Street across U.S. 101 and connect to the San Francisco Bay Trail.

Design Options

  • Option 1

Proposes one-way bike lane on each side, separated from traffic by a painted buffer strip and plastic posts.

    • Flashing beacons proposed at all unsignalized intersections to increase the number of safe crossing points.
    • Bicycle signals at intersections to prevent vehicles from taking a right-turn while cyclists are crossing.
    • Parking-protected bike ways (Move bike lanes to the curbside)
    • Potential lower cost than Option 1
    • Potential shorter timeline for implementation than Option 1
  • Option 2

Proposes one-way bike lane on each side, separated from traffic by a landscaped buffer strip and raised curb.
